The Ultimate Guide to FNO 2012

Everyone is putting the final touches on their participation in the global shopping campaign Fashion’s Night Out (FNO), taking place the evening of Thursday, September 6. Including me!

FNO, which was started four years ago as a means of stimulating shoppers’ enthusiasm to spend during the depths of the recession, is an event I get really excited about every year. It’s special to me for several reasons. First, I went to the very first FNO event in 2009 in New York City, which also happened to be the very first time I was in NYC during fashion week. It was a smashing good time! Second, FNO/Fashion week kicks off the start of my most favorite month (September) and time of year (fall). Finally, it’s for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds received from the FNO Collection benefit the New York City AIDS Fund.

I’m not the only one excited. Fashionistas like Usher, Solange, Liya Kebede, Chanel Iman and Marc Jacobs all participated in this year’s FNO promo. Watch the promo here.

Now, for the important stuff: what to wear and where to shop!

What to Wear for FNO12

Be fierce, as the night promises a tons of photo ops. Also, be prepared for all of the walking you will do and for the chance of rain! That mean, bring your cameras, flats, and umbrellas.

The extravanganza is scheduled to take place in 500 cities nationwide, as well as a whole host of international destinations. Start mapping out where you want to spend your dough — or, more likely, sip champagne, gawk at celebs, and make mental notes about what to come back for later and try on in peace. I am not sure yet if I will be in New York or DC, (or, in Charlotte for the DNC) but here are my recommendations:

NEW YORK
